The Mahtomedi School Board has unanimously voted to call for a Special Election in November in order to hold a two-question referendum on November 4 - one for operating revenue and one for facility improvements.

The ballot measure will include two questions. 

• The first question will ask voters for an additional $575 per pupil more than our 2025-26 per-pupil operating levy amount. The operating request increase will be used for maintaining class sizes, ensuring excellent academic programming, and building financial stability.

• The second question is a facilities package that includes facilities improvements that will benefit safety and security, academics, performing arts, and athletics.

This video provides more information to understand school funding. Like many districts, we face financial pressures from inflation outpacing funding, increasing health insurance costs, workforce shortages, a competitive labor market, and underfunded legislative mandates. We’ve also seen a more than 25% increase in transportation costs. We’ve already made $2 million in budget adjustments for 2025–26, including using one-time money to prevent cutting programs. Additional funds are needed to maintain staffing, programs, and financial stability.

Our website has back-to-school information in a pinned post on all websites under News. Families can expect to receive the Handbook information and school-level Back-to-School Guides in July. August 20 is the expected notification date for elementary homeroom teachers and secondary schedules.

• Don’t miss the Mahtomedi Area Farmers’ Market, which started June 28 and runs every Saturday, 8 am-12pm through September 27. Join us at Veteran’s Memorial Park to enjoy fresh produce, flowers and plants, honey, artisan breads, and handmade crafts and artwork from local vendors! 

• 2025 Youth Football: Tackle and 3rd Grade Flag Registrations received June 14-July 11, will be assessed a $50 late fee, no name on jersey, and random jersey number assigned. Flag Football (K-2) Registration will close when rosters are full. Please note, the grade level for which a player is registered is the grade level for Fall 2025 school year. • Free Bowling: PINZ Entertainment Center in Oakdale is offering a free bowling program for kids throughout the summer called Kids Bowl Free. Kids can come in Monday through Friday from 12pm-5pm and bowl 2 free games, and it runs from May 1st through September 1st.  Kids Bowl Free is a program for all kids age 17 and under. Click here for more information.
