Each month, Principal Jackie Collins spotlights learning happening at Mahtomedi Middle School. This month, the Principal's Spotlight focuses on Expertise!
This time of year, our Teachers are showing their expertise through the creative ways they are finding to keep students engaged and learning all the way through the end of the year. Our Student Council just served at Feed My Starving Children yesterday, our 8th graders are working on a collaborative project in their Geography and English classes using persuasive techniques to make a case for traveling to various countries, and 37 students attended the Young Author's Conference today. It's amazing to see our incredible MMS team and students in action!
We have many items in the Lost & Found that we would love to have find their homes before the end of the year. If you have been missing anything or see something familiar in the photo, please come by and pick it up.
Please note that all items left in the Lost & Found by June 11th will be washed & donated.
Honor Roll certificates will be handed out today and tomorrow in Middle School Success classes. We are very proud to say that 554 students at MMS received Academic Awards.
In 6th grade, 72 students received Honor Roll certificates and 101 received High Honor Roll certificates.
In 7th grade, 76 students received Honor Roll certificates and 112 received High Honor Roll certificates.
In 8th grade, 89 students received Honor Roll certificates and 104 students received High Honor Roll certificates.
Congratulations on your hard work and accomplishments!

If your student is registered for Honors English 9 next year, they received an email on May 19 with the summer reading homework. Eighth-grade English teachers also gave out paper copies of the packet. Prior to September 2, students have two books and articles to read, as well as annotating and tracking relationships within the texts. A link to the packet can also be found here. If you have any questions, please contact Sarah Lorntson, Honors 9 teacher, at sarah.lorntson@isd832.net
The 6th graders had a wonderful time on their field trip! They had the opportunity to learn what life was like at Fort Snelling in the 1820's, tour the State Capitol building, including seeing the Quadriga at the top up close, and some students even got to meet Representative Wayne Johnson.
Students in 8th grade Theater Production classes have been rehearsing for their final original plays.
