On October 28, Superintendent Barb Duffrin shared an update with the Mahtomedi School Board about events around the district, including the Student Cabinet, Homecoming, Athletic accomplishments, and the recent Showstoppers event. The presentation also included awards and recognition as well as upcoming district events. For more information, you can watch the video and view the presentation slides.
Our district was featured in the Movers and Shakers column in the October 23 issue of the White Bear Press. The column detailed our work on the Portrait of a Graduate, a a key component of our strategic plan.
Our Portrait of a Mahtomedi Graduate articulates the skills, competencies, and dispositions students need to be globally positioned for success. It will help students reflect on their strengths, identify areas for growth, and find personal, meaningful ways to engage in the community. The Portrait includes six core areas that describe graduates of Mahtomedi Public Schools: Collaborator, Communicator, Ethical, Global Citizen, Innovative Thinker, and Self-Aware and Self-Directed. Our Portrait is comprehensive with descriptions of these core areas, and each core area has five articulated skills and dispositions. In the coming months, we will be sharing the newly developed Portrait of a Graduate with our staff, students, families, and community members.
We are excited to share that Mahtomedi High School has attained a Gold Advanced Placement (AP) Honor Roll award. The College Board honors students, schools, and districts for academic excellence and achievement. The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs have done outstanding work to welcome students into AP courses and support their path to college success.
The Gold distinction recognizes that 68% of our Class of 2024 students took an AP exam, 56% of the Class of 2024 scored three or higher on an AP exam, and 10% of Class of 2024 students took 5 AP exams during high school with at least one taken during 9th or 10th grade.

We have recently had several driving violations on our campus that put our staff and students at risk. As a reminder, vehicles should not enter the crosswalk until all students and our security personnel are clear. Violations will be documented and communicated to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. Drivers on our campus should always use caution, yield to pedestrians, and follow all Minnesota driving and traffic rules.
