Each month, Principal Jackie Collins spotlights learning happening at Mahtomedi Middle School. This month, the Principal's spotlight focuses on passions.
One of the ways that we empower our students to explore their passions at MMS is through our Media Center. If you’ve visited the middle school you know that the Media Center is the visual hub of our building. Mrs. Oswald, Mrs. Buttermore, and Mrs. Burge are constantly changing the decor with clever, fun, and engaging materials, often including student work, that inspire our students to want to know more about the topics highlighted each month. Once students’ curiosity is piqued, the Media Center provides book suggestions, interactive activities, and a variety of opportunities to explore these ideas more deeply. The possibilities of things to explore through the resources provided in our Media Center are truly endless and we are grateful for the ways the staff helps our students on their journey of discovery.

Students in Mrs. Mancini's English class had a visit from Mrs. Oswald (Media Center) to help them learn tools to research effectively and efficiently for their group posters on the Yukon and Klondike gold rush in preparation for reading Jack London's Call of the Wild.

On the January 24 no-school day, our Mahtomedi Middle School Cooking Club students spent their day on a field trip opportunity through Mahtomedi Community Education. The students started their day at Feed My Starving Children in Chanhassen and packed meals that will be sent to Zambia. The students helped pack 67 boxes which is 14,472 meals! After their service project, students visited the Asia Mall in Eden Prairie and tried foods like Boba tea, Mochi donuts, roasted duck, and chicken feet. The February Zephyr Cooking Club dates are February 5 and 19, and registration is available here.
