Principal's Spotlight on Learning |
Each month, Principal Scott Briske spotlights learning happening at our school. This month, the principal's spotlight focuses on Passions and Interests. |
Dear Wildwood Families,
When you come to Wildwood, we want you to feel the warmth and dedication that defines our school. We believe that Wildwood is more than just a school; it is where we build a genuine love of learning together. Our goal is to nurture "learner agency," helping our students become passionate, excited, and confident leaders of their own education. It has been a joy to watch our students bring a vibrant energy to school daily. We see their passions come alive in so many ways:
-
The Magic of Reading: Our students are mastering the rules of literacy and applying them to words as they blossom into readers.
-
Creative Expression: Whether exploring contemporary art or mastering the art of thoughtful expression, our students are becoming artists, mixing colors and creating masterpieces for our hallways.
-
Building Relationships: In Kindergarten, "choice time" is a foundational space where students build strong, supportive relationships.
Exciting Adventures: The last few weeks have been filled with fun and valuable lessons across the building. |
-
Going for Gold: In the Media Center, students are diving into the world of the Olympics, learning through simulated sports and global discovery.
-
History Comes Alive: Our second graders recently returned from an incredible field trip to the the Minnesota History Center, and their enthusiasm for what they learned is still buzzing through the halls!
A Community Effort: Our families and community members are incredible partners, and I want to thank you for all you have done to support our school and students. |

| There are two current volunteer needs in our school! |
-
The K-5 book fair needs volunteers from February 10 to 20. The Fair is open to Wildwood and OHA families and will take place at Wildwood Elementary School. The Book Fair benefits our schools by building classroom libraries and adding new texts to the Media Centers. No experience necessary, but volunteers must have completed the district volunteer background check. Shifts range 1-3 hours. Click here to sign up.
- Candy donations needed! Did you know the PTO stocks candy drawers for our staff at Wildwood and OHA? We are looking for donations of bags of bulk candy to treat our hardworking staff. Candy can be delivered to the office. Click here to sign up.

Start checking the couch cushions, vending machines, and underneath the car mats because the COIN DRIVE starts next week! Wildwood students are collecting spare change and dollars in their homerooms to support the Share the Fair Campaign for our upcoming book fair. All donations stay at Wildwood to help build classroom libraries and to help students to purchase books.
Students are working together to earn a special in-school reward. Students can bring in donations starting next week, February 2-19 to the collection containers inside the Wildwood entrance in the cafeteria. |

Second grade families received a letter earlier this week letting them know about the upcoming Cognitive Abilities testing (CogAT). Second graders will test in their classrooms for a short period of time on February 3, 4, and 5.
If you would not like your child to participate in the CogAT testing, please complete this Opt Out form and return it to Principal Briske in the main office.
During the testing week, make sure your child gets a good night's sleep and eats breakfast. Please minimize absences, if possible. Questions: Kathryn Marget, Advanced Academics Coordinator kathryn.marget@isd832.net

I am excited to share that we will be starting a new positive ticket system on the bus for students doing the right thing, called the Ready Rider Program. Below are the details:
Objective: To incentivize expected and appropriate bus behavior with the hopes of increasing desired behavior choices and decreasing bus referrals.
What is a Ready Rider?
A Ready Rider is a student who demonstrates kind, safe, and helpful bus behaviors at the bus stop, while riding, and while waiting in the bus line.
How it works: A student may be nominated to earn the Ready Rider ticket by
WW staff or a bus driver. Students who receive a nomination must not have had any bus referrals in the previous 30 days. Recipients will be shared with the school via a morning announcement. Each
student receiving a Ready Rider award for that time period will get a certificate and a bus-themed pin/keychain. Near the end of the semester, one Ready Rider from each grade will be drawn at random and their class will get a reward. |

All students are exploring the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics through fun, hands-on stations that combine reading, movement, and discovery. Learning about the Olympics helps children build global awareness, practice teamwork and perseverance, and make real-world connections to what they see in books and media. These stations also support early literacy by encouraging curiosity, vocabulary development, and engagement through pictures, stories, and activities. |
Phonics practice turned into fun as kindergarten students jumped into
hands-on literacy activities to show off what they’ve been learning! |
Last week our second grade students went on a field trip to the Minnesota History Center. They explored Minnesota's past through exhibits that feature authentic historical objects, hands-on experiences, and multimedia presentations.
