Principal's Spotlight on Learning

Each month, Principal Scott Briske spotlights learning happening at our school. This month, the Principal's spotlight focuses on World Class Education.

We provide meaningful and rigorous learning experiences that support students to develop leadership and create their future.

At Wildwood, our students are blossoming into leaders by mastering the art of thoughtful expression and critical thinking. In kindergarten this week, students are showcasing their ability to support topic statements with relevant details in their informational writing, laying a strong foundation for effective communication. First graders are creatively combining their understanding of story elements to craft their own narratives inspired by Arnold Lobel's "The Guest," while also applying their knowledge of verbs and verb tenses to enhance their storytelling. Meanwhile, second graders are delving into the world of visual art, using Wayne Thiebaud's painting "Cakes" to explore settings and engage in opinion writing, gathering insights from multiple sources. They are also demonstrating their grasp of the interconnectedness of processes through a new read assessment. The level of thinking and discussion generated by our students is truly remarkable, highlighting their growth as confident, articulate leaders.

No designated topics, just bring your thoughts and ideas. We’ll supply the coffee and share in conversation. Our next Coffee & Conversations is on Monday, April 28, from 10-10:45 am at the Mahtomedi District Education Center.

Around the School

Beaver

Earth Day Visitor

Tuesday's Earth Day 2025 began with a wonderful greeting from a beaver that emerged from our Wildwood Wetlands and enjoyed a morning stroll! It serves as a reminder for all of us to do our part in caring for the incredible land that surrounds our school.

Trees

Neighborhood Forest

Wildwood families had the opportunity to sign up for a free tree through the Neighborhood Forest program. This year 168 White Cedar trees were donated to Wildwood families. First graders in Ms. Konecny's class helped to sort and hand out the trees to the classes. Ms. Panek plans to work with Neighborhood Forest again next year as well.

Habitats

Second Grade Animal Habitats

Our second graders spent the last few weeks in STEM researching the animals and plants that could and couldn't survive in certain habitats. Classes learned about the polar region, rainforest, oceans, and many more! Kids used their research to build a shoebox habitat complete with the animals and plants that they found through their research. Parent volunteers helped these amazing habitats come to life!
