Check out the information below about our school-wide Ice Fishing field trip!
We have an exciting school-wide opportunity for OHA students to go ice fishing on White Bear Lake from February 5th to 7th. This wonderful experience is made possible through a partnership with Elpis Enterprises, the Minnesota DNR, and MAEF. Students need to wear their Winter 5 so they are dressed appropriately for the weather. Permission forms were passed out to students today and must be returned to the classroom teacher by Friday, January 31.
If you would like to chaperone, please complete a background check. If you are unsure whether you already have one on file, you can check with the front office staff. Click here to volunteer for the OHA ice fishing event.

Thanks to a partnership between the Advanced Academics Program at Mahtomedi Public Schools and Mahtomedi Community Education, 50 students in grades 3-5 at O.H. Anderson Elementary School had the opportunity to attend the SparkPath Creativity Festival. The purpose of the conference is to help students expand their imagination, develop their creativity, and strengthen their problem-solving skills with professionals in STEM and art. Students took three one-hour classes that sparked their creativity in the areas of fine arts, engineering, dance, theater, music, and invention. Some of the learning activities our students engaged in included learning to breakdance, programming a robotic spirograph, creating an original game, building edible asphalt roadways, playing chimes, acting out theater scenes, building ziplines, and painting watercolor art.
Students are focusing on positive parts of their day during What went well this week!
Seventeen fourth and fifth-grade students competed in the school-wide Spelling Bee on Tuesday, January 14. This academic competition provides students with an opportunity to practice word parts and sounding out words (key components of our district’s literacy programming). The event was organized by Kathryn Marget, Program Coordinator, Mahtomedi Advanced Academics (Gifted and Talented) program. The intense competition lasted 14 rounds and included words like haberdasher, linoleum, and anecdotes! Karia Evan, a fifth-grade student, secured the school champion title by spelling the word squeal correctly! Karia will take a qualifying test to move on to the next round (Regional Scripps National Spelling Bee). Fifth-grade students Lydia Haschig secured a second-place win, and Tanner Pasch a third-place win! Congratulations to all the spellers, and best of luck to Karia moving forward!
If you want to celebrate a teacher or staff member please fill out this Zephyr Celebration Form. It makes a staff member's day for going the extra mile. We will deliver the kind wishes to them and we will celebrate how they make a difference in the lives of a child.
