Please watch this video to understand our weather guidelines for going outside and e-Learning plans during emergency weather closings.
We refer to students' winter clothing at recess as the OHA Winter 5: Jacket/Coat, Hat/Hood, Mittens/Gloves, Snow Pants, and Boots. Thank you for reminding students to dress for the winter weather each day.
Please bring books into the OHA lobby. Each child will get to choose a new book as a present from the PTO on Dec. 20 to encourage reading over winter break.
If you have a change of plans during the day regarding how your child is going home please do not email the teacher as they are busy teaching and do not check emails regularly or they may have a substitute in the classroom. Instead, please call the O.H. Anderson office at 651-407-2300 by 2:15 PM with any changes so we can communicate this to students and teachers.
Each day your student is absent you will need to fill out the O.H. Anderson Absence Form, even if you already contacted the teacher. Please input your child’s full name in the form. If you are reporting an early release or late arrival please enter the time you will be picking up/or arriving.
If you are picking up your child early please note that all early pickups must be done by 3:20 as it gets busy in the office at the end of the day.
For more information please review the Mahtomedi Public Schools Student and Family Handbook.
Students may NOT use cell phones, smart watches, or other devices during the school day (9:05-3:45). “No cell, bell to bell!”
For more information please review our Cell Phone Guidelines.
We’re approaching that time of year when many people ask about items that could be used at OHA. To make it easier, we've created an Amazon Wish List for our building. If you're interested in donating, any items from the list would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your support!
We are finishing up our first module this month. For a dinner discussion ask your child the essential question from their module and let them show the knowledge they have built.

Congratulations to O.H. Anderson (OHA) Elementary School fourth-grade student Gavin Gibbons on receiving the SMART Cookie Award! OHA fourth-grade teacher Libby Mattson nominated Gavin for the award, recognizing Gavin’s academic achievements, and shared this: “Gavin has gone above and beyond in his academics this year. He takes assignments and is able to make strong connections to the world around him. When doing writing assignments, he often writes more than the necessary requirements and uses deep thinking to write well thought out responses. Gavin works really hard at making sure he gets his work done. He also shows his classmates how to get work done when they are struggling.”
The SMART Cookie Award is a partnership between Mahtomedi Public Schools and Mahtomedi Class of 2021 alumna and owner of 350 Degrees Bakery, Elouise Suoja, to recognize students who exemplify Service, Mentorship, Academics, Resilience, or Teamwork (SMART). Staff members at Mahtomedi Public Schools nominate students. Award winners receive special recognition and a complimentary cookie from 350 Degrees Bakery.
A group of students from Wildwood and O.H. Anderson Elementary Schools recently shared their writing skills with the White Bear Press for a chance to be featured student reporters in the latest issue. Students submitted articles about what they are thankful for and “exclusive” details on Thanksgiving dinner. Thank you to our student reporters, Violet, Lila, Kyree, Dylan, Sully, Filip, Henley, Ceci, Drew, Mila, Collins, and Sylvia! Their articles are available to view in the print and online versions of the November 27 of the White Bear Press.
We have an OHA tradition of playing Tukey Bingo before Thanksgiving break. Click here to see kids having fun gobbeling down the hall to receive their prize.
Thank you to the Mahtomedi High School Band and Choir for coming to OHA and sharing their talents during a concert on Friday, November 22. OHA students had fun participating during the YMCA song.
Our third graders are rating their fish prints and adding embellishments.
Follow OHA on Instagram to see more photos of what we've been doing this week!
If you want to celebrate a teacher or staff member please fill out this Zephyr Celebration Form. It makes a staff member's day for going the extra mile. We will deliver the kind wishes to them and we will celebrate how they make a difference in the lives of a child.
