About the Internship

The Mahtomedi Public Schools Communications Office and Community Education team work together to share the stories that connect our schools and bring our community together. From celebrating student success to creating joyful moments of Zephyr Pride, our work highlights what makes Mahtomedi a special place to learn, grow, and belong.

We’re looking for two enthusiastic high school students (grades 9–12) to serve as Communications Interns – Zephyr Mascot. These students will bring “Zephy” the Mahtomedi Zephyr to life at events throughout the year and help create joyful experiences for students, families, and community members.

About the Role

As part of this internship, you’ll represent Mahtomedi Public Schools at events such as:

  • School assemblies, pep fests, and athletic events
  • Community Education and family events
  • Elementary celebrations and district-wide activities
  • Special events like Homecoming, graduation, and state championships

Students will rotate between serving as the mascot performer (in costume) and as the mascot handler (assisting with safety, visibility, and crowd interaction).

This is an unpaid internship that can count as a Communications Internship experience. Students who perform at a high level will receive reference letters for jobs, scholarships, or college applications.

Commitment

Internship term: December 1, 2025 – July 1, 2026

Appearances only with approval from the Communications or Community Education Office.

Costume is stored at the District Education Center and must be checked out and returned after each event.

Transportation to and from events is the responsibility of the student and their family.
