About the Food Shortage
On November 1, 2025, families enrolled in the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will not receive their monthly benefit, which helps eligible low-income individuals and families purchase necessary food items from grocery stores. This is due to a stop in federal funding for the SNAP program resulting from the government shutdown. The State government has granted emergency funds to Minnesota food shelves to assist with the likely increased need; however, there will still be a gap between the food needed and the resources available at food shelves.
