If emergencies arise in any of our school buildings, all of our schools use a standardized set of protocols to ensure our staff and students know what type of emergency is occurring and how to respond. These protocols are used in partnership with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and are intended to clarify emergency information. For more information and a description of the protocols, please read this email that was shared with families.

We’re excited to tell you more about the trip we’re planning with EF Tours through a virtual meeting on Tuesday, September 24 from 7:00-7:45pm. Please be sure to click here and register for this info session to be considered for this opportunity.
When students travel, they expand their knowledge of the world around them, discover more about themselves, and grow more confident. The tour is open to students in grades 7-9, plus siblings, parents, or families!
We want to acknowledge that road construction has made our challenging pick-up/drop-off situation downright terrible.
Though we can't do anything to change the construction timeline, we can do our best to ensure that our students are safe through the process. Please remember that the Middle School parking lot loop is a one-lane, one-way loop. Please keep our students and staff safe by waiting your turn in line, by watching your speed, and by not driving through the parking lanes in the lot. We apologize for the massive inconvenience and thank you for keeping safety the highest priority.
Our MMS Therapy Dogs, Piper & Riley, have already been busy making life at the Middle School extra sweet this year. Piper is the darker and younger of the pair. She is more of an extrovert and loves to be right in the middle of the action. She is quick to approach students for a pet or a scratch. Riley is a little bit older and a little bit lighter in color. She tends to be more on the introverted side. While Riley loves soaking up all of the attention she can get, students often need to seek her out. Each dog's personality is very different, just like our students'. This allows them to meet different kids in different ways, which is absolutely perfect! Riley & Piper are hard-working pups and we're so grateful to have them on the MMS Team!
Students in Digital Arts loved exploring their new cameras! Each year, as part of the Zephyr Gala celebration, the Mahtomedi Area Educational Foundation (MAEF) Board of Trustees selects an innovative educational proposal called a Fund-A-Need (FAN). In 2024, donors supported the purchase of learning tools, including cameras, tripods, chargers, and batteries for the digital art classroom. Digital Arts is a class for seventh and eighth-grade students at MMS. In Digital Arts, students explore and learn about the facets of digital art, including photography, video, and graphic design. Students learn and use current elements of technology to express their feelings and ideas by creating and producing personal works of art.
There are always reasons to celebrate! If you know of a staff member who has gone above and beyond, or have heard of a particularly excellent experience that your student had at school, we would love to hear about it! Click here to submit a celebration form and we'll make sure to take note and celebrate along with you!
Check out these upcoming opportunities to get involved in our school community.
The Middle School Parent Association (MMSPA) is always looking for parent volunteers! If you would like to get involved, contact Megan Reitan at lmreitan@gmail.com
