Each month, Principal Jackie Collins spotlights learning happening at Mahtomedi Middle School.
This month, the Principal's spotlight focuses on World Class Learning.
At the heart of world-class education is the belief that students thrive when they are inspired, engaged, and empowered to express themselves. Ms. Flatten's 8th grade art classes just completed a new collaborative project that is proudly displayed in our hallway at MMS. Students selected an artist they personally connected with and then chose a specific piece by that artist that spoke to them. From there, they chose a medium that they enjoy working with and created their own artwork in the style of their chosen artist on a puzzle piece. Students then collaborated to put their puzzle pieces together with their classmates' art to create one cohesive piece of art that represents all of our 8th grade Art students. This project not only fosters artistic skill and critical thinking, but also nurtures empathy and cultural awareness, allowing students to see themselves—and each other—reflected in art. It's a great example of how world-class education blends creativity and collaboration in meaningful ways.
Principal,
Jackie Collins
Coffee & Conversations is a community engagement event we host several times throughout the year. Enjoy a coffee and have an in-person conversation with a Mahtomedi School Board member. No designated topics, just bring your thoughts and ideas. We’ll supply the coffee and share in conversation. Our next Coffee & Conversations is on Monday, April 28, from 10-10:45 am at the Mahtomedi District Education Center.
Ms. Korich's 6th graders did a great job with their book presentations in English class!
Did you know that for the past four years, Mahtomedi Community Education has offered an after-school Cooking Club to Mahtomedi Middle School students? This program is one way we are supporting middle school students to build real-world skills, including collaboration, time management, and problem solving, all while reinforcing important math and reading abilities.
The club, instructed by Alice Seuffert, began with this mission of empowering middle school students to learn how to cook but has grown into so much more through the years. The club provides belonging, fun, and community to our students–as well as great food. Click here to hear from students about their experience in Cooking Club.
There are always reasons to celebrate! If you know of a staff member who has gone above and beyond, or have heard of a particularly excellent experience that your student had at school, we would love to hear about it! Click here to submit a celebration form and we'll make sure to take note and celebrate along with you!
Check out these upcoming opportunities to get involved in our school community.
The Middle School Parent Association (MMSPA) is always looking for parent volunteers! If you would like to get involved, contact Megan Reitan at mnreitan@gmail.com
MMS has an Amazon Wish List of a variety of items that we utilize regularly. If you are interested in purchasing anything on the list to help us stay well-stocked, we would appreciate it greatly!
