Kids of the Arts Productions (KOTA) cast MMS 8th Grader Hailey Parr as Mackenzie in the NYC premiere of The Great Christmas Cookie Bake-Off!, a new musical by Rick Hip-Flores (Broadway's In Transit, Come From Away). In this musical, eight young actors portray cookie chefs from across the nation who are competing for a prize on a reality baking show.
Through the Covid shut down, KOTA held several successful virtual performances, which led to the creation of a hybrid format of performance that allows actors around the world to audition and rehearse virtually and then connect in person for rehearsals in the days leading up to performances. Hailey and the other cast members engaged in musical theatre rehearsals, exclusive workshops with Broadway stars and top industry professionals, gained vital insights on wellness and showbusiness, refined improvizational skills, and connected with fellow actors.
The performances were held in December at the Laurie Beechman Theater, a dinner theater in Times Square where many well-known actors on Broadway had their NYC debuts, including Mary Kate Morrisey, Wicked's current Elphaba on Broadway. Amazing job, Hailey!
On January 21, students will take the mySAEBRS survey. mySAEBRS is a screener that is utilized, along with additional information, to identify supports a student may need to be successful at school. MMS began using mySAEBRS as a student self-assessment in the fall of 2022, and mySAEBRS has been used at O.H. Anderson Elementary for years. The mySAEBRS asks questions about how students feel about school and connections to adults and peers at school. Below are some examples of the questions.
The survey will take about 5 minutes for students to complete. To learn more, please visit the mySAEBRS website here.
