25 Years of One Exceptional Athletic Tradition

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Mahtomedi Cross Country team running the game football for Homecoming. The furthest the team has run was in 2005 from Pequot Lakes, which was 168 miles! This year, they ran approximately 20 miles in four relay legs of 4-6 miles, with JV running the final leg of the race. After each leg of the race was complete, they created a tunnel and cheered the next relay team on! After the run, the team brings the ball in during the Pep Fest and on the field for the Homecoming football game. Experience this year’s run by watching this video created by Evan Carion, MHS Class of 2025 student and Cross Country Captain.

Modern Classroom model utilized in Human Geography

Social Studies teacher, Karen Vidlock, is using the Modern Classroom model in her Human Geography classes. The model is based on three pillars:

  • Blended instruction- students have "must do", "should do" and "aspire to do" activities and 'almost' everything is in Google Classroom.

  • Self-paced structure- students follow a personal progress tracker and a group collaboration tracker

  • Mastery based learning- each learning target has a mastery check that students must pass to keep progressing through the unit. They can do redos and verbal checks as needed.

Mahtomedi Student Cabinet Engages Peers & Works Collaboratively

The Superintendent’s Student Cabinet is a new leadership opportunity this school year at Mahtomedi High School(MHS). Forming the Cabinet is one way the District is taking action on elements of our Strategic Plan that call on us to build trust and partnership with students. The group will serve as a student advisory board and will regularly connect with their MHS peers on designated topics and report back with feedback on strengths and areas for growth. Students applied for the Cabinet and will serve for one year. Each student is connected to different communities within MHS but will work collaboratively for positive outcomes at Mahtomedi Public Schools. The Student Cabinet recently held its first meeting. At the meeting, Superintendent Duffrin gave the students an overview of adult leaders throughout the district and a description of their job duties. Congratulations to this year’s Student Cabinet members: Layla Befidi, Aidan Carlson, Abraham Jansen, Jaylen Jones, Ella Kraai, Steve Kuschke, Ali Lum, Maxwell Newcome, Eden Puchreiter, Matthew Studenski, and Joud Wadi.
