In an effort to provide consistent attendance practices within the district. Mahtomedi High School will begin sending out automated tardy notifications to the parent/guardian of any student that is late for one or more class periods during the academic day. Notifications will be sent out via text messages beginning next Monday, November 11th, .
Texts will not include specific information about the tardy. Families that receive a text should log into ParentVue and select Attendance to see which class period reported the late arrival.
We appreciate our MHS families making consistent, on-time attendance a priority. Questions about our new notification practices can be emailed to MHS Associate Principal, Lisa Faletti-Watkins

Today we wrapped up our schoolwide A.B.L.E. Mental Wellness Week hosted by Student Leadership Council. The acronym A.B.L.E. stands for Awareness, Balance, Learning and Empathy. During today's extended flex time, students had the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of mental wellness related opportunities including speakers, journaling, nature walks, yoga, relaxation through exercise, tea and music, quiet reading and spending time with our therapy dog, Brewster...just to name a few. Washington County Community Services was available in the commons to answer questions and share their very popular mental wellness related swag.
Congratulations to Ada Thompson (Class of 2026), who was recently selected for the American Choral Directors' Association (ACDA) Mixed Honor Choir. Out of more than 5,000 students who auditioned, Ada is one of only 300 students chosen for this prestigious ensemble.
Ada has an impressive track record in choral music, having been selected for the 9th and 10th Grade Honor Choirs in previous years. In addition to her achievements as a vocalist, she serves as the student assistant director for Zephyr Express, Mahtomedi High School’s a cappella ensemble. Her commitment to music education is also evident in her attendance at a recent conference aimed at inspiring future music educators.
“Ada’s selection for the National Honor Choir is a remarkable achievement that highlights her dedication and talent,” said Chad Garrels Director of Choral Activities at Mahtomedi High School. “We are incredibly proud of her and look forward to seeing her shine on this national stage.”
The Honor Choir will rehearse in Dallas, Texas during the National ACDA Conference on March 20 and 21, culminating in a performance on Saturday, March 22, under the direction of renowned conductor Chris Maunu. This opportunity allows Ada to collaborate with top choral talents from across the nation, further developing her skills and passion for music.
The Current Issues and Politics class at Mahtomedi High School conducted a mock election for all MHS students on election day. Click here to watch a video of the event. Students in the Current Issues and Politics class practiced different roles during the mock election, including checking in the registered voters (MHS student list), distributing ballots, monitoring the election, checking ballots, and distributing “I Voted” election stickers. The Current Issues and Politics class at MHS connects students to past, present, and future issues that shape the world on a local, regional, and global scale. The course is offered during the fall semester and uses a variety of activities to engage students with matters that have geographical, political, economic, social, and technological significance in the world.
MHS students in Carly Lewellen’s AVID class recently had the opportunity to explore the college experience through a visit to the University of Wisconsin River Falls (UWRF). Throughout the visit, students learned about the programs offered, tuition, opportunities available, and general campus life. They attended small group sessions tailored to their potential future career interests and asked questions to a UWRF student panel. They also got to eat lunch in the dining hall among current students and participate in a campus tour. AVID is a new elective class offered to MHS students this year. It provides a curriculum that focuses on strong reading and writing skills, organization, study strategies for success, and research on colleges and careers. AVID students also participate in additional activities such as college visits and community service projects.
Thank you from Mahtomedi Community Education to National Honor Society members who attended the Quilt Show at the Mahtomedi DEC! Over fall break, NHS members raised money by selling concessions and homemade bakery items.
Mahtomedi High School students also volunteered with the Zephyr Cooking Club at Mahtomedi Middle School. High schoolers provide mentoring and guidance while sixth through eighth graders cook.
If you want to volunteer with Zephyr Cooking Club classes at the middle school, please contact Enrichment and Adult Coordinator Sammy Wallace at sammy.wallace@isd832.net
Throughout the school year, MHS hosts opportunities for our students to visit with representatives from a variety of colleges, universities, trade/technical schools, and branches of the U.S. Military.
