Community Lunch

Community Lunch Brings People of All Ages Together
We recently hosted our May Community Lunch. The event kicked off with an adorable song performed by Ms. Kelly’s preschool class, followed by music from local band Folk Revival. Both groups brought infectious, joyful energy to the gathering and reminded us just how powerful music can be in bringing people of all ages together.

Thank you to the 50+ community members who joined us for a great meal, engaging conversation, and even a little dancing! We love seeing friends, neighbors, and familiar faces come together to celebrate the simple joy of being together! Click here to see behind-the-scenes moments from the event.

How are we leveling up events such as the Community Lunch?
This year, Mahtomedi Community Education is bringing a photo booth to our community events, and it’s already a hit! This is one way we are dedicated to finding new ways to connect with and create even more memorable experiences for our community. Click here to see a sweet video of the photo booth in action at the Community Lunch.

Dennis Joslyn

Director Brings Community Play to Mahtomedi
Mahtomedi High School (MHS) Theater Manager Dennis Joslyn brings over 25 years of directing experience in high school, professional, and community productions. In his work, he takes the passion that first drew him into theater when he was a teenager and extends it to the next generation.

This summer, he is launching a new initiative in Mahtomedi in partnership with Community Education: a community play! Anyone over age 15–including students, staff, family, and community members–can participate as an actor or crew member in the production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Mr. Joslyn is excited to see the talent our community offers and hopes to turn this into an annual tradition. To do so, we need support from our community! Register for crew or a free audition on Eleyo by June 2. Learn more about Mr. Joslyn’s inspirational theater journey here.

Conscious Discipline Community Connection
Nature Night

Early Childhood Events Bring Families Together
Mahtomedi Community Education recently hosted two events for our early childhood families: the Conscious Discipline Community Connection and Nature Night!

At the Conscious Discipline Community Connection, families learned about the Mahtomedi Area Preschool program's social-emotional curriculum called Conscious Discipline, a framework rooted in trust and emotional safety that promotes key skills in our youngest learners, including resilience and self-regulation. Click here to see sweet photos from the event.

Families explored the magic of nature at Mahtomedi's Nature Night. This event is one way Mahtomedi Community Education is dedicated to fostering a love of lifelong learning in our students from an early age. By connecting children with nature, we connect them with their sense of discovery and wonder! Click here to see behind-the-scenes moments from the event.

Music Lesson

He’s spent almost three decades shaping young musicians in Mahtomedi: Meet Chuck Linderkamp!
It all started when Chuck Linderkamp was a senior in high school, using his passion and knowledge of music to teach woodwind lessons. Forty-five years later, with a music degree from Gustavus Adolphus College and a lifetime of expertise to share, he is still doing what he loves: connecting with students and guiding them on their musical journeys.

Mr. Linderkamp teaches private saxophone, clarinet, and oboe music lessons at Mahtomedi Middle School (MMS), facilitated by Mahtomedi Community Education. During the school year, MMS students have the opportunity to attend private music lessons during the school day. During their lessons, students receive individualized guidance from Mr. Linderkamp on anything from technique to posture to air control. Click here to watch a video about Mr. Linderkamp's passion for what he does!

Mr. Linderkamp also teaches at the MMS Beginner Band camp, which takes place at the end of August each year and helps incoming sixth graders, or students who are starting an instrument for the first time, receive tailored support before their first day of MMS band in the fall. Register for private lessons or MMS Beginner Band camp on Eleyo.
